I'm in the process of writing another tutorial, this one will be a lot of under the hood pictures so I figured I'd atleast clean under there some for better pictures. Parked the truck in the street the night before and was out with my friend during most of the day so the truck was still cold when I washed it. Sprayed everything under the hood except alternator, batt, and fuse box with Simple Green and then hosed it off after a couple minutes. Took a leaf blower and blew everything out pretty well. Then I went back out for about 45 mins and came back and went to move the truck to the driveway, it was shaking really bad at idle and since it was only a few feet I moved it anyway. Last night truck was still giving problems. I took off the plug wires from the coil, the wiring harness from the coil, IAC plug, TPS plug and added dielectric grease to everything and it made it better but didn't fix it. Tried a spare brand new TPS on the truck too but no gain. The truck was idleing rough and now it isn't but if you floor it for a second to rev it it shakes as it revs up, if you go easy it revs fine. Driving the truck it would drive fine but sometimes when you floor it doing like 35mph the revs would just stay around 3000 and slowly slowly climb. It was doing that intermittently. I have to go on a little bit of a highway drive today to pick my friend up and I was thinking maybe driving my truck instead of the F150 could help since maybe something still has a little moisture and a nice long drive could help that moisture evaporate. Any ideas anyone?

I know this isn't a bodylift thread nor is it a headlight mod thread so I'm not expecting a lot of informative replies lol.

 

Try going on the drive today. That may get any kind of moisture out.

 

check your maf and stuff? long shot but who knows..

 

Sounds like a bad spark plug to me, maybe the timing is just coincidence? Probably not though, take it for a drive to blow it out like suggested above.

 

Did you take the plug wires off the plugs? Blow them out with compressed air.

 

Possible plug wire that's cracked could have gotten water in the wire causing a short

 

Well just got back, drove like 60 miles and when I pulled into driveway and revved it it felt better but not smooth like it should. I'm going to pull off the cam position sensor and clean it and see if that helps since its in the V of the motor pretty much, could have gotten overly wet.


Nope, but I'll do that and add a little dielectric grease when it cools down

I put new wires on the truck last weekend so I don't think thats it lol

 

I'm starting to lean towards the coil being bad, anyone else think so? Messed with the cam position sensor earlier and it didn't do anything.

 

you didnt post the status of your wires yes the coil pack could be bad. already replaced mine cause a horrible missfire. are you throwing a code?

 

Yeah I should have mentioned it but forgot. No codes, first thing I checked lol

 

Hum this same thing happen to me like twice after washing the engine it would drive fine till u gave it more than half throttle then it would vibrate an feel very weak but the engine light never came on so i just kept driving it an it went away...but i did have my coil pack go bad a few months back an it was raining...so I'm like great something got wet again..but the engine light came on an i knew it was not just water this time so i pulled it in the garage an checked for spark on all wires an number 4cyc had went down in the coil pack. Replaced it an it was fine...so if your truck dose not send any codes it could have moisture in it still or it could well possibly be a bad plug wire..take em off an look for any burn marks or sign of arc.

 

purple power works the best and next time leave it running while washing and check ur sprak plug wire and coil

 

interesting, i have washed my engine several times the exact same way as you did Korey, but had no problems at all. Runs so smooth at idle, you cant even tell the engine is running lol

Very curious to find out if this was actually caused by the wash or something else that just took a crap after washing (huge coincidence I know lol)

 

Ya not sure if you left it running while washing it but def. always do that! Let it keep running for awhile after you wash it also.

same issue I am having after washing off engine lightly. Running perfect before but now feels like its firing on 4 or 5 Cylinders. I filled it up w/93 octane and added fuel additive and drove it 20 hwy miles. Checking for codes tonight. thanks

 

It's been 8 years.... I think it's dry.
