Anyone make this mistake?

I've been driving a 2001 saturn sl2 while my truck is down. It had been sitting 1-2 years so I pull it in the garage to change the oil. I unbolt the plug and tranny fluid starts draining out. Wronf PLUG! I look and I got mercon IV in the garage but it calls for dexron IIE. Dang it.

It's 8:15PM so I go to pep boys. I get there, find the oil and reach for my wallet which is not there. I tell the guy I can leave my toolbox and come back. He rights the stuff down and says don't worry about it, we got you covered. I did go back before they closed and paid for it.

It's all good now. Thats what I get for letting an amateur do an oil change.lol

Its been getting 31-32 mpg, saving me about $10 a day in gas. I want my truck back though.

Some front wheel drive cars can be tricky like that. A lot of auto trans Saturns have a transmission filter resembling an oil filter too.

Mine has the two filters. I managed to get the correct one removed.

I did once have a 79 datsun PU that I did a really stupid thing too.

I was changing the oil and FORGOT to put the drain plug back in. So here I go and pour a whole 5qt jug of oil into it only to see this LARGE puddle of fresh oil running everywhere. DOH!

Oddly enough yes. Did the same thing to my sister's 95 Saturn SL. Pulled the plug.. and started wondering... why is the oil red? AHH crap.... worked out for the best because she said her tranny is a lot smoother now that I changed the fluid and filter for it as well as the oil. Was pretty funny when I did it.

I did it to a Mitzubishi once when I worked at Valvoline Instant oil Change when I was 16. The Tranny fluid came out so Black that I thought it was oil. The top side tech look down at me and said "Why do I smell tranny Fluid?" I then noticed a reddish tint to the fluid. The guy got a free fluid change.
