Reset keyless entry fob

My parents bought a used explorer and they dont have the remotes. I figured Id program one of my remotes to their exploder but I dont know if I have to remove the programing from my truck first. I have a viper alarm and dont need both of my original fobs. So I guess my question is, if I program one of my fobs to their explorer, will it open both cars?

hell no it is now programmed to the explorer only. it can be reset to the ranger doing the same thing. BUT you need to do both fobs right after each other it will change the program every time.

you can do up to 3-4 fobs at one programming thats the max

really? I have my Ranger key fob programmed to 3 different vehicles. it works on my Ranger, the work E350 and my moms Mustang.

BTW, im not sure about the older cars, but you put the key in the igniton, go from OFF to RUN 8 times stopping on RUN the 8th time. The locks will cycle up and down letting you know you are in programming mode. When that happens, click the unlock button on the remotes you want to program. The locks will respond if its successful. You MUST have all the remotes you wish to program to that car present at the same time. You cant program 2 remotes now, then 1 later as the car will erase all the stored remotes. As was said you can do up to 4 i think. After that, just take the key out and you are done.

Remember, you are programming the car to the remotes. Not the remotes to the car.

I edited it above. Im not being condesending about it. Just stating that one remote works on multiple vechicles. Its the internet. Don't be so defensive.

here is ford tech if you dont understand my instructions

Programming—Remote Entry Transmitter
NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters are programmable and must be set at the same time.

NOTE: To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.
Turn the ignition switch (11572) from OFF to RUN eight times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
Within 20 seconds, press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each transmitter has been programmed. Repeat for each transmitter
If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer back to the pinpoint test.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to 20 seconds after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.

X2
Emphasis on doing ALL the Fobs you want programmed on the same programming cycle. You can easily have two cars side by side and program both cars for all the Fobs at once.

The problem is that I dont want the remote to work on my truck, just the explorer. How would I remove the programming from my ranger so I run into Sixt9coug's situation?

I havent tried it, but put your truck in programming mode, but dont press any buttons on the remote possibly? Then after that cycle through the rest of it and see if it works. That might erase the ones stored in the cars computer. Other than that im not sure if pulling the battery cable and turning on the lights for 10 minutes will clear it. I've never tried to clear them all out.

If you are doing two (or 3) cars at once all of the cars dont need to be there, just the remotes you want to use on a particular car. My Ranger was already programmed of course, but i did our work van (by itself) at work, them my moms Mustang while i was at home. The same remote works on all three, but i had to make sure i had all the fobs that i wanted to work for each car present.

so once Im at the 8th cycle and in the ON position, the locks cycle to confirm Im in program mode, you suggest I just turn the key to off and get out of the programing mode? That might work

Thats what i would try first. I dont know if it will work, but its worth a shot. The worst thing thatll happen is nothing will change.

Just do the the programming routine on each vehicle using only the fob or fobs that you want the CSM to recognize for that vehicle.

got it working, I had to program a single remote to the ranger and the other to the explorer. I guess once I program a new/different control, it deletes the previous ones it had programmed....I guess thats why your supposed to program all the controllers at the same time instead of just adding a new one to it. Thanks for your help guys!
