Attempted Theft, replace ignition

Over the weekend, somebody attempted to steal my 99Ranger 4X4. 4.0. I assume the PAT system defeated them. Sunday morning I went to drive the truck, the ignition cylinder was gone. (They did manage to steal a 2 year old F-250 from the neighbor 3 doors down.)

I took my key to a locksmith who keyed a replacement cylinder for me. However when I tried to rotate the mechanism (inside the cylinder housing) to align it so the new cylinder would fit the guts cam out. There was a plastic geard sprocket which I can't find and an metal piece about 1" by 3/4" by 1/8" tha is broken in the middle. the piece is irregularly shaped with a fatneck bottle shape hole in the middel, a couple slots on the end (long axis) eased edges and a hooked "ear"

I need a blow up of that assembly and a place--hopefully other that a dealer--to buy the replacement parts.

Can anybody help? Thanks

This site has a exploded view of a 99 tilt column but the parts in question should be the same. Note this site is just for information. I don't know anything about them nor recommend or indorse them. Click Link

Thank you REV. I actually found the same diagram on fordparts.com after I posted. Fordparts is a nice site as it gives you the option to search by VIN. Type in the VIN and it searches to that. Also, when you get to the diagrams, you can click on the part and it give you the title, price and option to "add to cart." Prices are considerably cheaper than local dealers but I have yet to order from them so I don't know about delivery time or shipping fees.

Back to my problem: I have the new cylinder #11582 and the 3E717, "Steering column actuator gear. I also have two other pieces: An irregularly shaped, oblong metal piece about 1 1/16" by 3/4" by 1/8". It is broken. The other piece is a green plastic ovoid with ears. When you place them ontop of one another, they interlock. Both pieces have iregular holes in the middle. I am guessing that together they constitute part #3C610, "Steering Column Lock Retainer Key lock (1152) retainer." Then I would be missing the 3E700, "Steering Column Lock Housing Bearing." I can buy the parts.

I am worried about the install. Positioning the Steering column actuator gear is crritical else the transmission (automatic) lever won't work. Also, if I have something wrong and I insert the new lock cylinder until the locking pin drops I could be stuck with a non operationg switch, frozen transmission lever and the whole assembly stuck in the column. Of course I would probably break sometning trying to get it apart again.

Has anyone done this install? Is there a DIY for it somewhere? I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks again, WillyMac

Looking through my 2001 service manual, the following parts and part numbers should be similar:

Starting directly behind the key lock cylinder, in their prospective order is the bearing retainer PN# 3C610, steering column lock housing bearing PN# 3E700, steering column lock gear PN# 3E717.

Other associated parts include the wiring harness retainer PN# 14A163, steering column lock cam PN# 3E695, pin PN# N808114, and the steering column lock cylinder housing PN# 3511.

I scanned a couple of pages from the service manual that might help with the installation of the parts Click Link and Click Link
