Auto Door Unlocks

Auto Door Unlocks
I have a pontiac sunfire that had the keychain button to unlock the door. I recently wrecked it and that contributed to me getting my ranger :) What I was wondering was if you could take the electrical unlock system from a sunfires doors and put in a ranger. My ranger just has the manual key unlock and its just handier to have that lil button on your keyring. your thoughts?

i used some lock actuators i got off ebay, along with my code alarm and a double pole double throw relay i got from radioshack.
i also used the sunroof button on my OHC for the lock/unlock button.
if i had to rate the difficulty i would give it a 3/5, all depending on how much you know about electronics.
just looking on ebay i found a few things.
heres a kit, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-Doo...spagenameZWDVW
and heres the lock actuators like i have.

you could use the alarm part out of the car but i have no idea how the wiring would work or where it even is so i cant help much with that.
im almost positive you wont be able to use the actuators that are in the car right now, most are built into the lock mechanism itself.

What he said ^^
Simplest solution is to go with an Aftermarket setup. Time it’ll take to remove and then configure it to work in the ranger you’d be miles ahead with the aftermarket setup.
You can either get those off ebay as in Daniel's post above or here’s a link where you can buy them out right.
Power Door Lock Accessories
Here’s the setup I put in my ranger using the alarm as the control instead of the module that comes with the kit. You will need to add the relays in place of the module. I opted to use the double pulse setup. This way one click on the FOB and the drivers door opens, a second click and both doors open. I put the relays in the passenger side kick panel. However, if you dont care about splitting the opening feature then you'll only need 2 relays.
