Check and see if your terminals are dirty.

terminals were dirty, the whole engine is covered with mud. i pressure washed it and the terminals and the light went away for about 10 min. if its the alt how should i fix that. and when you say its the alt did you mean i broke the alt, or theres mud on the alt and i should clean it

If the light went away, it was the terminal. From my experiences our alternators are pretty tough, I've yet to have problems with mine and I have put it thru some hard stuff.

haha alt's arent that bad.. changed 2 out in the parking lot of discount auto with 2 mag lights and 4 KC daylighters.. lol.... anyways.. go to autozone, discount auto etc.. have em put a load test on the system.. that should narrow it down to what it acutally is.. either way the alt isnt that hard to replace... undo the belt.. a few bolts and wires that go.. n pull it out.. if u need any help pick up a haynes manuel for like 18$ and should be a snap

have your truck running and hose out the alternator..some may start harasinng me for this but never any problems with doing it and whenever i got in deep mud my batt light would come on too and thats all it would take to get rid of it

More than likely you got mud inside the Alt. This can mess up the brushes and or slip rings for the field coil and or short the stator and or regulator. I'd say your gonna wind up having to replacing the Alt. to fix it.

Have you used a multi meter and made sure your battery is still holding 11-13 Volts? Then turned on the truck and see if it stays at 11-13 volts? It could be that your battery or alternator is going bad and it just happens that you went mudding. (the mud may not be your problem is what im getting at)

Is it ok to spray the alt.? I have killed 2 in about a year. The last one was FULL of sand from a day at the beach and the other had several miles and had mud in it.

Is the best way to clean them just spraying them with the pressure washer? I no that is bad for it and can kill it tho.

Pressure washing the Alt is not a good idea. At a minimum it can force water and grit into the bearings.
