Icon8 Blower motor new, but next to no air flow

Hey folks, it looks like this is an issue that has been covered for other year models, but I just can't find anything specific to my '94 Splash. I know there is somebody out there that can help me out. This is a great site and I appreciate everybodys postings, but I just can't find the answer. If anybody has any pics of specific things I need to look for or that can point me in the right direction of any sites that might have diagrams it would be greatly appreciated. HELP!

About a week ago my blower motor started going bad. It just stopped working and when I finally realized what it was I could just tap on it and it would run. I'd just started my work week and had to let it go until my day off today. During that time it got worse. The air flow got weaker and it finally gave out on me. I bought a new blower motor and replaced it. Now when I turn it on it sounds like a hurricane coming through, but now the air flow is extremely weak on all setting except the defrost. I've read alot on this forum about similiar problems and different types of solutions and I've tried to follow them, but nothing seems to be working so far. I've given up for the night. My truck is in about a million pieces and all my lights are either dying on me or burning out so I think that's a hint. I've read alot of these threads about Rangers with the same problem and don't know if I'm just not getting it or they are different than my Ranger. I've got a 1994 Ranger Splash. The blower motor works and sounds like it could blow the wig off an old lady, but the air flow is next to nothing. If anybody could give this non-mechanically inclined ole boy a hand I'd sure appreciate it. I'm trying to keep her on the road as long as I can. Thanks.

is it turning the right way. if its wired wrong or the blower itself is in backwards it will still run but wont blow any air.

I thought about that, but here's the way it was done. The original blower motor has the female end mounted to it's housing which the male end goes into which is still hooked up to your engine when you take the motor out. When I bought the new motor it didn't have a female end mounted to it, but it did have two wires coming out of it. I asked the guy at Autozone about it and he told me to cut the male end off and splice the together. The new motor had one black wire and one orange wire. The male end in the truck has one orange on black and one black on orange wire. I hooked the black to the black on orange and the orange to the orange on black which seems to work fine. As for the air flow, the only "problem" is that I'm getting what appears to be normal air flow from the defrost and floor vents, but not the four front vents. I didn't have this problem before the blower motor started going out, but at that time it only made sense that if the motor wasn't pulling the correct RPMs then the airflow would slow down. Now I don't know what's wrong. Also, I don't think you can put the fan on backwards on the motor. It's like a squirll(spl?) cage with only one end open so it has to go in correctly. However, if it's going to happen...it's going to happen to me. Thanks for any help.

Does the air blow through the defrost vents even though the **** is set to another mode? If so, then your looking at a leak somewhere in the climate control vacuum system.

If it's blowing strong up through the defrost then it's not blowing the wrong direction or the resistor.

It's the mode door not working. Either the door is physically not allowed to move or (and more likely) it's the control of the door. I believe on your truck it vacumm operated. So it's gotta be the controler, the hoses, or the actuator moving the door.

Just for ease.. put the mode in defrost. Then drive the truck hard around some LH and RH turns. See if you can hear anything loose down in there. See if it works afterwards.

If that does'nt change anything it's gotta be in the vacuum system operating it.

You seem to be spot on with the specs of the '94. I've got a perfect place to do the lefts and rights tomorrow. I'll let you know. Thanks for the info.

Now just to throw this out there, I do get some air flow from the front vents in both MAX and NORMAL, but not what I should. It also doesn't change from MAX to NORMAL or NORMAL to MAX everytime I move the lever. I can see the door move, or not, when I change modes, but can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I had the interior apart again today, but stopped to go to work. Any more info let me know.

Sounds like the control system to me. There could be a screw or piece of debris wedged in there too.. but usually the door won't move a lick if thats the case.
