hello, I have a 2008 Ford Ranger I work mostly nights watching clients property.
i would like to have a switch for the brake light so when I drive around no one sees my brake light (trying to do stealth mode)
i also want to wire in a second dome light (red light) with a switch. Any way to wire a switch to the primary so it won’t come on when I open my door?
The least complicated way to disable the dome light for DRIVERS side door only would be to hijack the Drivers door switch wire behind kick panel
Its a green wire with purple stripe
The Door switch wire is GROUNDED when door is opened, no ground when closed, so if you cut that wire and insert a switch then no dome light when drivers door is opened
It is a ground system so so just use a switch no relay is needed
I would just put a Red bulb in one of the Map lights so you can turn it on when needed
Brake pedal switch is actually two switches
The Blue wire with Red stripe should be the brake light 12v IN wire, its LIVE 24/7(all the time), on this switch
You should use a Relay AND an LED switch for this
5 pole 12v relay 30amp
An on/off switch with an LED bulb
You would hook the relay up so when relay is OFF brake lights get the 12v, so failsafe, on a relay that means 30 and 87a are where you hook up the Cut Blue/red wire ends
The switch will be the GROUND for the relay and LED bulb
So when switch is on, relay is Closed and no 12v to the brake light switch, and LED on the switch is ON
Brake light power is often needed to take Automatic out of Park, shift release solenoid power, you will just have to see if thats the case here
Fuse #19, 20amp, in the cab fuse box should be the 12v power for brake lights(powers the Blue/red wire) pull it out and see what else is disabled
I have a single bulb dome light if room allows could I put a red bulb inside and wire it with a switch?
My initial thought was to buy a second single bulb dome light and put a red bulb and have the wiring go from the oringal to the second one with a switch in part of ground.
I finally got the relay and switch and a few days off, from what I understand i connect the brake wire onto 30 and 87A leaving me with 85,87, and 86... do I run a wire from the switch ground to the relay ground and 86 and 87 to the other two prongs ?
I removed the fuse and started up my truck and was able to shift out of park and Into drive, I then disconnected the battery and wired up everything as said afterwards I reconnected the battery and it works nicely.
Not trying too raise red flags here but how about the license plate light?
