Buzzing sound coming from my LH side of dash
Buzzing sound coming from my LH side of dash
Hi Guys,
I just bought an 2011 Ranger with 81,000 miles on it and it runs great..it's the 4th Ranger I have had over the 40 yrs..then about 2 week ago I noticed that when I cut it off there was a low buzzing coming from my dash..I started it back up and then cut it off an the buzzing was gone..fast forward to the last week I noticed that it's buzzing when it's running all the time sitting still or driving it, the buzzing will go away if you press the brake pedal or turn on the hazzard flasher or turn signals..I told a friend (a diesel mech) about it and he said his 2002 F350 was doing the same thing so he took it into the local Ford Dealer and they replace the Multi-function Switch(turn signal/Dimmer Switch) and it went away, they told him it had a short in it and was causing the Flasher Relay to buzz..has anyone else had this problem? and did you replace the Multi-function Switch to cure it? Thanks, maicobuddy

Welcome to the forum
No, not a common thing on Rangers but makes sense
The Flasher does both turn and 4-ways, and both are controlled by multi-function switch, brake light power also passes thru this switch
The Flasher is under dash between steering column and driver door
When its buzzing have a reach under the dash to see if you can feel it, its on its own just clipped to under side of dash
If you can feel it "buzzing" then yes probably the multi-function switch with slight internal short, it's disconnecting from turn but still has a slight connection to 12v, most likely brake or 4-way if it "buzzes" with key off(they both have full time 12volts), but not enough to power it, so it "buzzes"
Unplug the multi-function switch and have a look at the connector for signs of corrosion
Just as a heads up, read here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...ranger-159016/
I know its not your year but not sure what the 2011 turn signal arm looks like or if your knee hits it, just a heads up that F-150 multi-function switch did work in some year Rangers
