Which Coolant
Which Coolant
I have a 2008 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L and will be doing a coolant flush/change. I'm going with the Motorcraft brand. Which should I go with the concentrated or the Pre-Diluted mix. If I go with concentrated I would have to buy two and have 2.7L left over or buy one and have the mix more as 64/36. If I go with pre-diluted I would have to buy 3. Could I do a 64/36 mix and be fine. I live in San Mateo, CA.
You can't drain all the coolant out of a cooling system, unless you are pulling out "freeze" plugs, so don't go by "capacity"
As much as a hate paying for water shipped to me I would get the 50/50 pre-mix, but just 2
If you run out add Distilled water to top up
Yes 60/40 water/coolant will be fine anywhere in Calif
Concentrate is better value IMO, because you aren't paying for the distilled water which is much cheaper, lol
But you would need to mix it in another container as 50/50 then pour it in to cooling system, then mix another batch and pour it in, and so on, other wise you won't know the true mix ratio.
2008 should use Hybrid OAT coolant, HOAT
Don't use a "Flush", drain coolant, refill with tap water and drive for 1 day, you can used distilled water, up to you.
Drain and refill with 50/50
ALSO after draining the FIRST TIME, swap heater hoses at the firewall, and turn heat to HOT when driving, Fan can be OFF, this will Back Flush the heater core cleaning out any larger debris, which will be drained out when you drain the water only out.
Swapping heater hoses should be done every 2 to 5 years on any vehicle, it can double the life of the heater core

With aluminum radiators, blocks, heads, heater cores you want to stay as close to 50/50 as possible, you need the anti-corrosion protection.
If it was me, I would buy the "Concentrated" which is really just straight antifreeze.
Buy 2 of them, dump one gallon of straight antifreeze in, dump one gallon of distilled water in.
For the second gallon of straight antifreeze, dump half of it into the now empty first jug, now you have 2 one gallon jugs half full, top them both off with distilled water, now you have 2 gallons of 50/50.
Top off the cooling system with those and either store or dispose of the extra.

Ok I’ll go with the Motorcraft concentrated. Should I also use the VC-1 Premium Cooling System Flush or is it over kill? If I do use the VC-1 do I put it in before draining the old coolant or do I put it in with the plain water. Distilled water isn’t a problem for me. My dad has a reef tank and has a RO/DI system. So I always have a large amount of distilled water.
