Well, I finally got around to fixing my broken blend door. It was a bit of a pain, but successful in the end. The quick and easy fix found here wouldn't work for me. I had to replace the door with a new one. First off, I recommend that the part that the actuator clips to be removed. It is bolted on using 3 screws. This allows a smidge more clearance. You can see things better, too. I cut a hole in the bottom of the plenum like they did here . Believe it or not, the new door will fit through there. Then, I cut a hole in the front of the plenum like they did here only much smaller. Just enough to be able to see the seam and to insert a screwdriver to pry up on. Probably, the most difficult part was getting my old blend door out. I finally decided it would be easier to break it to get it out. I snapped the shaft part in half using a pair of channel lock pliers. I found that inserting the new blend door into the bottom pivot point first gave more clearance than putting top end in first. Use a long screwdriver to pry up on plenum seam to give enough clearance to insert top blend door into actuator hole. I carefully taped the removed part of plenum with aluminum tape making sure clearance for blend door operation was kept. Aluminum tape is supppose to hold up to hvac temps. Working Perfect!!

I bought mine at O'reilly auto parts for $10.73. It seems many auto parts stores can order this item using part #76807. It comes with the blend door for the Ranger, a different blend door (for Taurus?), and some metal plates (believe also used for Taurus).

 

does it include the blend door actuator? if it does, does it say ATC on it or MAN?

 

No, actuator isn't included. Nice truck,btw.

Oops, I need to read a bit closer, and thanks for the tip. Since I have your attention, I've been curious about your outside mirrors. Most replacement mirrors don't list '98 and up as a fit for '97 and down. Did they bolt up without mods? I would like to get rid of my flag mirrors sometime.

 

those are not aftermarket replacements.....they are 2007 Ford Ranger mirrors....

Hello

 

Take the glove compartment off
At top by pressing. in.unplug
The blend door actuator .
Find a Allen wrench that will
Fit into the top of the actuator
Fill around on top of it you
Can probably see it with a light
It is on the top right and white
Stick your Allen wrench in
The top find the size that fits the hole
Turn it counter clock ways .
You can hear it open and close.
Do this with engine off.
You may have to tie it off to something.
You Have Heat now.
Just turn it the other way when
You no longer need heat.

 

Interesting tips !
I was finally able to disconnect the blend door actuator on my 2006 Ranger, but I am unable to get the old one out !
If I raise it enough to clear the arm that goes into the ductwork, there's not enough clearance to pull it out.
I thought of breaking off the shaft also, but I don't think I can get in there with channel locks ?
I do not see "the part that the actuator clips to be removed" ??
That would give more room, but I don't see it ?
Tired of freezing my beans here in the northeast.
