Door Ajar keeps coming on

If I push a little bit on the passenger side door the door ajar light comes on. I think it is the suicide door because it flexes a bit at the bottom but I’m just not sure what to do to fix it. It’s my first vehicle and I’m just getting into mechanics

Welcome to the forum

Must be a 1998 and up Ranger to have 4 doors
Always good to include the year of the Ranger

All 4 door switches are Grounds when its door is OPEN, when door is closed the door switch OPENS so no Ground

So unplugging a 2 wire door switch ungrounds it full time, this is for testing or disabling that door switch

The rear door has adjustable "strikers" on the frame of the cab body, this is what "sets" how far in the rear door closes and holds it there, see if its loose at the top or bottom and adjust as needed
The door switches are on the Latches that "grab" the strikers when a door is closed, so if door is not closing all the way the Latch is not either so switch might not open all the way ungrounding the door ajar light

Google: 2000 ford ranger rear door panel removal

I just picked 2000 because there is a video for removing rear door panel that comes up, watch it

You can also google "front door panel removal" since you are not sure which door switch might be at fault

As said you can reach in and unplug the 2 wire connector on a door switch, to test if its the one causing door ajar light to come on

Ok I figured it out. First off it’s a 2008. Secondly I have figured out it is the bottom of the rear passenger-side suicide door. I thought it was kid of weird since the main door weighs more but anyways, the adjuster for the door striker has been maxed out going toward the inside of the truck.
I cleaned the latch and put some jig-a-loo in it. I’m not sure what could be the problem other than maybe the bushing on the door.

Btw thank you for the info

I don't have a 4-door so not sure of the mechanics

But is there any weather stripping at the bottom of door that could be worn out

There is a bit of paint stripping but not much rust other than the metal outside where the hinge opening is. It’s hard to explain but the layer of metal just above the paint if you are looking at the bottom of the door.

Im going to adjust it back this weekend, I don’t think the door is fully closing on the bottom. With some force I could move it close to an inch.

The latch itself freezes and rusts. The mechanism at the bottom of the door. It may not be engaging anymore.

Since you're in Canada and its an 08, the bottom latch is done and rusted out, no amount of adjusting is going to fix it. Buy a new latch for it, spray it down with fluid film or something similar and install it.

Yeah I figured it out and I ordered the part for the bottom door mechanism, the bottom doesn’t lock in at all (freely moves from locked position and strike position). Thank you guys

I'm having the same issue on my 03 and just got the lower latches and the cable repair kit; waiting for warmer weather before trying to take the door panel off. I cut the door ajar circuit for the passenger side behind the radio rather than risk cracking the door plastic. Did you get this fixed yet?

All I had to do was remove the plastic, and a seat belt bolt. Remove the three screws hold the bottom door latch. Pull out unclip sensor. Install in reverse order. What breaks is the clips that hold the plastic to the door. So good to have some.
