Door ajar light
Door ajar light
Ok guys...after reading many reviews and watching videos...I may have solved the problem everyone has been having with that culprit of the famous door ajar and dome light on situation. I Thought the cold weather up here was seizing up the door latches. So I disassembled the complete door latch from the culprit drivers door....cleaned all the old grease from it and re lubed with silicone spray. I then removed the bottom angled door ajar switch and tested it with a multimeter. It was giving me intermittent readings. Now all the videos I watched said to replace it...but I decided to open it up and see what was inside...super easy to do, just lift up the 2 plastic side tabs. All it had was a rubber seal...spring and angled spring clip. I cleaned all the old grease from the parts...spread open the spring clip a little bit as to allow it to make more pressure on the contact points. Reapplied some dialectic grease on the contacts ....reassembed and tested the switch again....this time giving me positive readings all the time. Put everything back together and Voila...door works every time...it's been minus 30 degrees Celcius here all week and door ajar and dome light have been working perfect. Hope this tip helps everyone out....no money spent...just labor.
Hello Jimel44. My daughter has a 2009 Ranger with this problem. I did a search and concluded that the problem is the switch. Took the panel off thinking it would be fairly easy to pull the switch, and either clean it like you did, or buy a new one. If course I could not simply pull the switch as there is not enough room to twist the sensor and pull. I guess my next job is to remove the three screws and remove the latch like you did. How difficult is that considering the link rods attached and the limited room to put the rods back? Can't find anything on Youtube except after the latch has been removed, and that was for an 03 Explorer. Not even sure it is the same assembly. Anyway, any advice you can offer, or link to a video would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
