door ajar light always on
door ajar light always on
My door ajar light has been acting up lately. At first, it would say door ajar for a few minutes and then it would just go away. This happened a few times. Well yesterday I am going for a nice drive to take some pics of my truck, and the door ajar light comes on. This time it was different. It stayed on for good. When I would park my truck and lock and shut the doors, the dome light would stay on. So for now I pulled the 26 fuse while my truck is parked, i just pop it back in to drive.
My question is where is the sensor for the door that says if my door is ajar or not? (a pic would be helpful)
I want to fix this but I dont wanna snip the wires since I need the dome light when I open my doors.

I have had this happen to me and it went away. then I saw these guys talking about spraying the switches and I have not had this happen again in over a year.

That's funny my truck has bin doing the same thing for awhile too The funny part of this whole thing is that it only does it when its hot out side, anyways thanks for the simple solution guys :) I will try the WD-40
the light itself
1998 Ranger 2WD --- I took the light down - 3 screws that stay in the assembly - and cleaned around the switch contacts. I actually snipped off the 4 melted plastic "nubs" and opened it up to see where there could be a problem. The only place where they possibly COULD make contact is at the switch. There's a small black wedge that pops out, then the switch slides out. I cleaned the surface it slid on and the switch contacts. Then I bent the contacts some more with a needle nose pliers so there would be less of a chance of that causing a problem.
The only problem with opening it up like this is that I had to use 2 part epoxy to seal it again and I haven't put the clear cover back on in case the epoxy fails and the assembly falls apart while trying to remove the clear cover. The center bulb is still out and both of the "spotlight" lamps come on when either door is open, so I removed the driver side bulb which is currently in the ash tray for when I need it.
I thought only the center bulb should come on when the door is open and the left and right spotlights should only come on when the switch is moved left or right, door open or not.
