door/ dome light question

Last year a friend of mine crunched up my driver door (file under: stupid chevy driver) beyond repair. We went and found one for 20 bucks. It was off a 94 and mines a 99. The shop painted it to match, put my glass, panel, lock, all that stuff in, but forgot the door switch i guess because ever since i got it back the dome light doesn't come on with the driver door. Pretty nice when I want a stealthy get away, but I want it fixed. So can someone tell me where the problem might lay?

And on top of that my cluster is fuxxed. The check engine light and stuff comes on, but the actual gauges wont light up when i turn my headlights on sometimes. Smacked the top of the dash and they came on...any ideas?

Theres an electrical switch attached to the latch. Seeing it is on the hard side, its more of a touchy feely experience.

As long as you havent swapped a gen 3 door on to your gen 4 truck. All you need to do is lube the latch. I have had better luck with a silicone spray vs wd-40.

Its the lock mechanism that holds the door shut. No disassembly need to lube it.

If I remember right, wasnt there a TSB for that problem? I remember not long after getting my truck that I had to have the latch replaced due to the dome not coming on when the door was opened.

I believe that was the suggestion of the tsb. Lubing the latch has the same result, typically. At the cost of a penny its worth the a shot.

Not knowing what the "shop" and you have done. We cant say how it needs to be fixed.

To me it sounds like they skipped the switch and wired so as if the door is closed. Your going to need to peel apart the door panel and see whats up inside. Who knows your switch might actually be bad from the accident.
