Doors automatically lock when driver side door is opened
Doors automatically lock when driver side door is opened
Occasionally, when opening the front driver door, both doors lock. Most of the time it's not a problem, but want to prevent locking my keys in my truck if it does decide to happen when I'm least expecting it.
This issue does not occur when opening the passenger side door. The issue also happens when opening the driver side door from the INSIDE.
My thought was that this is a timing relay issue - not sure about the Ranger, but many vehicles automatically lock the doors if the door hasn't been opened after a minute or two. Perhaps the timer is set off when the front driver side door is opened.
I'm not sure what else it could be. Perhaps a shorted wire. Hopefully it's that because I'm not sure where this relay would be located (if it exists at all).
Hoping someone else has experienced this issue and knows how to solve it.
Thanks!
JG

Welcome to the forum
Year of the Ranger would help?
But most likely issue is a short in the Door Lock button or wires in door jam pass-thru on Drivers door
In most years the Door lock/unlock button is just a GROUND
When you press the button the "lock" wire is grounded and that activates the Door Lock Relay
So if that 1 wire is grounded by accident then doors lock
Door lock switch will have 3 wires, lock, unlock, and ground wire
You could use an OHM meter between ground wire and either "other wire" on the connector then open and close the door to see if it shorts, 0 OHMs shows up, then test other wire same way
Do the same for the switch, see if switch is shorting when jiggled or barely touched
