Drained my battery today..is it normal?

okay last summer when i installed the system in my ranger i had disconnected the battery and had the hood up all day. well it was real hot and the sun baked it all day. well at the end of the day the battery was toast...what im getting at is that its hot here in texas...maybe it just dying.

I'm flatterd, but I'm not that perfect.

I've never seen a battery get baked by the sun like that although I suppose it is possible. Just like over-charging the battery will boil it off, I guess the same could happen with it getting baked by the sun.

Heat followed by Vibration are the 2 main killers of batteries, so if you had the hood up and the battery was in dirrect sunlight all day and a bit older I can see it. direct sunlight temps aren't horrible but if the battery is about 2-3 years old its def possible.

Matt, all I do all day is diagnose sell and repair batteries... for the last year and a half. I know my ****. Everytime you share your knowledge about the situations on them you are right on the money especially compared to the hear-say that other people toss in as if it were a proffesional opinion. Flattery nothing, there's right and wrong, and you are consistenly right

battery was 5 years old... truck had judt been parked for 5 months. drove it for 3 days no problem. had the hood up for about 8 hrs in direct sunlight.
