Belt Squeeking??? Help!!
I just had the water pump replaced on my 2001 3.0L Ranger. I also had them change the belt too. I never had any noise before, but now it's squeeking like crazy at idle. What would be causing this with a new belt? There is only 34k on the truck.
I took it back to the shop and they told me that they couldn't get it to squeek! Not to mention that they broke my hood release cable and then told me that it was like that when I brought it in! I can tell you that I'm never going back to that shop again.
Please help me if you can.

Cheapo belt maybe, and you should check to see that it's centered right over the pulleys (like, not one groove "off").
I've had two 3.0 Rangers that did this and I have two words on the squeaking issue: Goodyear Gatorback. The Goodyear Gatorback belt solved it on my truck and I will no longer even consider running anything less.

the only thing that i have had work for my belt was belt dressing. and that make it worse for the 1st day then it finally set in and stoped the noise. But it came back yesterday so it didnt totally fix it. (3-4 months later)
And pam cooking spray is a temp. fix. It will stop the noise for a few hours
wd 40 doesnt work at all. It is a water based lube that just wears off. You need a oil based lube, but just buy a new gatorback belt.

Ha ha! I get it then! I'll remember that. Is that a term thats used or did you just make it up? Pretty cool either way.
Well, I'm semi-redneck south Jersey raised quasi suburban...uh...I forget where I was going with that...grew up on farms...but I work in a steel mill. I don't know what I am (though people suggest names all the time -- can't print some of them here though)...
