Fuel Pump and/or Inertia Switch ????

Have an '87 Ford Ranger 2.9, been in the family since new and now is my weekend hunting/fishing truck.

I know the check valve is getting bad in the fuel pump, sometimes have to cycle the switch a few times.

A couple months ago the truck wouldn't start, figure I was going to have to replace the fuel pump but than I pressed the reset button on the Inertia switch near the floor well and it started right up.

Yesterday I was out hunting and headed in when I went to start it and nothing...? Pressed the switch and off she went. Did the same thing this morning when I was coming back as well.

Winter is fast approaching and sure don't feel like pulling the topper and than box to do the fuel pump, but sure don't want to get stranded this winter out hunting.

Thanks for any help

If you are resetting the switch I doubt the pump is bad.

The switch is a ball, funnel, spring, and a magnet. Its possible the magnet is getting weak and slamming the door is setting it off.
