Alright so my 2004 ranger wouldn't start and everything pointed to faulty fuel pump:

Check fuel pump shutoff switch: good
Fuses: good
Relay: good
Fuel Filter: replaced

Still no start and no pressure in the fuel line.

I replace the pump and it still won't turn on, which would point to something electrical, but its not the fuse or the relay. Any suggestions?

 

Connect your pump directly to the battery and see if it comes on. If it does, check your inertia switch with a multimeter.

 

Crawl under the truck and look up under the driver seat area. There should be a square connector with about a 10mm bolt head in the center.
Remove the bolt and disconnect the plug.Spray the contacts on both halves generously with electrical contact cleaner .Work the plug on and off a few times then spray again.
The connector is exposed to the elements and is known to leak sometimes and corrode the contacts.

 

do you have gas in the tank?

 

i love this. people do all this diagnosis and they dont look to see if it has any then there like " oh duhhh i'm stupid"

 

do u by chance have ur bed off? if so turn your key on and check your voltage on the fuel pump tabs and let me know what it says...

 

Now that i think about it that is the same thing wrong with mine, but i have pressure in the lines...

 

not tryin 2 b a ***** but if you all could get a voltage reading on your fuel pump harness this would b a little easier diagnosis

 

had this happend to me i thought it was the fuel pump ending up being the fuel reset swich or the inerta swtich as ppl call it. they got go alot on the 04 rangers. so change that first . even tho you can test it it might work then and then it will fail again. a good way to test if it the switch u can bypass it and see if the fuel pump kicks on the if it does that means the switch is bad but dont run truck with it bypass because it will burn up pump because of the voltage.

 

I figured it out. i pulled the bed off and looked at the fuel pump, and the last hose at the top was bad. now it runs better then it did when i bought it
