Welcome to the forum

I wouldn't swap out 2002 GEM for this, more trouble that its worth

2000 Explorer would have gotten the Speed signal(VSS) from its 4 wheel ABS module, this would have converted the 25,000ppm signal, from rear axle ABS sensor, and sent the 8,000ppm(pulse per minute) signal to 2000 computer, also was sent to speedo and cruise
I wouldn't swap in the 4 wheel ABS module either
Rangers did used the GEM for this in 1998-2000 because 4 wheel ABS was just an option, in Explorers is was standard
The 1998-2000 Ranger GEM modules are the only ones that can do the ABS sensor to 8,000ppm conversion, no other years have that software

Far easier method would be to use a Dakota Digital SGI-100BT unit seen here: https://www.dakotadigital.com/index....od/prd1192.htm

This can be spliced in to the 2 Rear Axle ABS sensor wires, like a 1998-2000 Ranger setup did, as the INPUT signal, and OUTPUT 3 as the Ford standard 8,000ppm AC VSS signal
This output would go to computer, speedometer and cruise module(if so equipped), also went to GEM in 2002(pin 14), in 2002 all these "speed" wires are grey/black and spliced together, so hooking up to one of them will hook up all the others

In the 2002(2001 and up Rangers) computer wiring there would have been a grey/black wire on pin 68 that was the 8,000ppm VSS OUT signal that computer sent out to speedo, cruise and GEM
In 2002 the transmissions had an OSS sensor, 2wd or 4WD manual or automatic, they all had the OSS
This sensor sent out 20,000ppm to computer and computer converted it to the 8,000ppm based on stock axle ratio and tire size

On the 2000 Explorer computer pin 58 is the VSS IN, which needs the 8,000ppm signal from the converter interface

The Dakota unit cost $100, and there might be cheaper units available haven't looked recently
But I have used the older version SGI-5E before and have no complaints

The Dakota unit can also be calibrated for tire size as needed, since INPUT signal is coming from ring gear on rear axle, the axle ratio doesn't matter, just tire size does

2000 Explorer
ABS sensor---------4WABS module-------------(grey/black wire)------------------(split to computer, Speedo, cruise, GEM)

2002 Ranger
OSS--------computer-----------(grey/black wire)----------------------(split to speedo, cruise, GEM)

You will need to run a wire to pin58 on 2000 explorer computer if grey/black wire is not there, but it should be there, just no longer connected to anything

2002 GEM doesn't have a Speed OUT signal, just a speed IN

You need a speed SOURCE, GEM is not the source of speed signal even in 1998-2000 Ranger, its was the converter from 25,000ppm to 8,00ppm

Only source of a speed signal on a 2002 Ranger(with a 2000 computer) that you can use, is the rear axle's ABS sensor

You need to convert that ABS 25,000ppm signal to 8,000ppm signal

The 1998-2000 GEMs did have that software but......................the GEM is the body computer, so it does ALOT more stuff, so if you swap in a 1998-2000 GEM you may not have wipers, or power windows or power door locks after swapping in a 1998-2000 GEM
And you would STILL NEEDED to wire that GEM to the Rear axle ABS sensor because 2002 Ranger won't have that wiring

Using a Dakota Digital SGI-100BT is the simplest way to get an 8,000ppm signal for 2000 computer, speedo, cruise and 2002 GEM
Splice into the 2 rear axle ABS wires and run those wires into the cab
Get key on 12v power, and ground for the 100BT, hookup the 2 IN wires
Hook up the ONE OUT wire to grey/black wire at 2002's GEM(pin14) that should be connected to speedo and cruise already, then connect OUT wire to 2000 computer pin 58

You only need 1 OUT wire to each because 8,000ppm signal only uses the positive half of the signal

I assume the 2002 Ranger had AC, so you had all the AC parts in engine bay just need to change some wiring

The 2000 Explorer computer and 2002 Ranger computer used the same wiring to computer, pins 41, 69 and 86 were AC control
assuming Explorer had AC which most did

Diagram below

The 2 pressure switches are the GROUND for the AC clutch relay, but this wire connects to pin 86 on 2000 Explorer computer
Pin 69 connects to the AC Clutch relays coil, to ground it
Pin 41 is the control wire from Climate control, it has 12v when AC is selected on dash control

When AC is selected the computer connects pins 69 and 86 together internally, activating the AC clutch relay and compressor

The reason the computer is involved is so it can turn OFF the AC when you "floor it" to pass someone or just want extra power
Also if the engine temp gets too high computer will shut off AC

You can by pass the computer and install your own relay using the 12v signal from dash control to connect 69 and 86 wires together
