having trouble with antenna

Just installed an aftermarket antenna and the anti theft light is on. Any easy fixes to revert what i did? I installed the old antenna immediately afterwards and it still won’t start.

Welcome to the forum

What year Ranger?

Radio antenna?
Has no effect on engine systems

If you are referring to the transceiver around the ignition key for the PATS(passive anti-theft system) then why did you replace it?

If you have a 1999 and up V6 Ranger then you have PATS
If you turn on the key and the Anti-theft Light starts to flash rapidly then there is a problem with PATS and No Start, but LEAVE KEY ON, and wait
After 45 seconds or so the light will start to flash a 2 digit code number, a 1 then 1 to 6 flashes, then repeat

11 Transceiver [transponder coil] not connected, or there is no power to it.
12 Transceiver internal fault.
13 No Key/no PATS key has been used to turn the ignition switch.
14 Incomplete key code received.
15 Invalid key code received.
16 CAN communications error.

[QUOTE=RonD;2207481]Welcome to the forum

It’s a 2000 Ranger. All i did was change the antenna on the exterior of the truck. I went to start it to see if the antenna worked but the theft light was flashing a s i tried to start it

The antenna is irrelevant. My 2002 Ranger was previously owned by my uncle, and he drove it twice a week to the dump. Out of nowhere it just started throwing the THEFT light, and he couldn't figure out why.

Follow the steps Ron outlined above, and that will help us figure out what is wrong. I followed the same steps and was able to figure out the issue and fix it.

I'll bet a dollar changing the radio's antenna had nothing to do with the issue. It's just something you did that, coincidentally, right before the theft-light issue arose. Had you put air in a tire instead of fiddling with the antenna, you'd be asking the same question only asking about tire pressure and the PATS.

In a 2000 Ranger the PATS module is above the glove box, and antenna wire runs in that area, from passenger fender to radio

What all did you do when installing the antenna?
I assume bezel and radio were removed

There are also 2 fuses, 19 and 26 in cab fuse box, if you forgot to unhook a battery cable when doing the work you could have blown a fuse
