Headlight switch bulb size LED? Cluster oznium details?

2004 XLT SuperCab 4x4

Well i was looking around earlier wondering where to find a lighted headlight switch and i found my switch is lighted and the bulb i guess is burnt out.

Well i know i can convert it to blue led but do i just replace the bulb with a blue led or is there a filter i have to wetsand off. also do resistors have to be used. Also the 4x4 switch i would like to do as well

I would also like to put oznium led strips in the Guages as well as the hvac controls. (does the filter in the hvac get removed completely?)

Does anyone have detailed pics of how to:

Any info would be awesome and greatly appreciated,

THANKS IN ADVANCE

-Ben

Yes you can convert it to LED.

Here's John Griggs' Cardomain for the how-tos...

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394

This ones for the headlamp and 4x4 switches... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/12 See the rest of his cardomain for other LED how-to's like the fog switch, cruise control pods, etc.

There's a couple LED cluster builds here using Oznium LED strips. JP7 and Motounpluggled are two of them. There's more. Just search LED cluster and I'm sure they'll pop up. I've no experience with them....yet... lol.

the resistor is because LED's are generally designed to be used for around 1.5-4V depending on the LED it's self... buy them off of ebay... 90% of the companies that will sell you the LED's will give you free resistors, just specify that you want them for 12v...

that being said, different colour LED's use different size resistors, so make sure that your LED works with your resistor

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
this will help you learn about LED's it also has a section about calculating the proper type of resistor for your application

lastly, i will point this out for you...
Super Bright LEDs - Instrument Cluster and Gauge Backlights
sometimes it's easier to buy something that someone has already made for your application... this is where i am going to be getting mine from, same with the ones for the back of my dash, but i gotta pull it all apart to count bulbs first

Go too http://www.hidplanet.com if you want to see the best LED cluster/tail light/headlight conversions. My work and the work on this forum is cheese compared to what some of the guys on that site do. I'm trying to up my game to that level.

You should. They do that to prevent spam. The site has thousands of DIY projects. I'm not exaggerating.

I didn't use the strips on my cluster. I used component LEDs placed strategically. Will use PLCC mini LEDs next time.
