Icon5 How Does The Front 4x4 Hubs Work

On a 2010 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 L
How do the front hubs operiate?
Do they stay locked in all the time?
Or is there an electric switch in them that actavates them when the 4x4 switch is turned on?
Not understanding all this new high tech Ranger stuff.

Thank You

No locking hubs. They are locked in all the time. You just engage and disengage 4WD.

2001 and up Rangers have "Live Axles" that means they are always locked, axle is bolted to the hub

Low tech stuff there

4WD is selected in the transfer case, either front drive shaft gets power from the engine(4WD) or it doesn't(2WD)
