Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS)

Does the cargo light work when switched on? I would look into the door switch

Lube the latch, I would use brake cleaner first to get the gunk out. Then use some silicone spray.

Now when you say lube the latch, are you talking about the closing and locking latch?
Thanks

No, I mean rinse the grim out of it then spay a lubricant into it. The switch that controls light lives in the latch, its just preventive maintenance. Not saying its going to fix your issue but it is a common problem.

If the key reminder is working the GEM is getting ground signal from the door switch. So I would rule out the door switch as the problem. It more then likely would be the interior lamp relay and or its associated wiring or possibly the GEM itself.

I wouldn't rule out the door switch just yet, you have to remember there are 2 of them the driver and passenger door can both control the dome light.

Yes, both door switches control the dome light. However, I believe the driver’s door controls the key reminder. Since the OP is stating “Doors” in his original post one has to assume neither door currently activates the dome light.

Later in this thread he states the key reminder works. This would confirm the driver’s door switch is functional and providing chassis ground to the GEM with the door open.

When the GEM sees ground from either door switch, it provides a ground to the interior lamp relay, activating the dome light.

Since neither door switch is activating the dome light but can be manually activated via the dome light switch, the most likely common item would be the interior lamp relay, its associated wiring, or the GEM is not providing the ground signal for the lamp relay.

I believe its in the auxiliary relay box located under the dash just to the right side of the steering column.

Never said lubing the lock would fix the issue but it is preventive maintenance.

And in 98 the interior relay is behind the pass air bag.

Glad to hear it was a simple fix.

The two mandatory in-cab add-on's for Rangers is the Mag Light holder and WD-40 Holder

WD-40 is garbage with a good marketing campaign, to top it off its mostly mineral oil.
