I recently had to replace my brakes, (drum, cyclinder, drum kit - springs, etc.) My right rear wheel went perfect and I had no problems. However when I went to replace my left side I noticed they were not aligned to begin with. So when repacking then it took me a solid 2-3 attempts to get everything perfect and aligned how it supposed to be. The only thing that doesn’t align is the top portion of the brake pad. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Every time I take everything off and redo the problem it’s ends up the same way. Pictures below:
I stared at that for a while and cant see anything wrong. Are you sure your backing plate is not bent? Also I've seen brand new wheel cylinders seized, did you check that the pistons move and its not stuck "out"?
I bled the brakes, which seemed to adjust it a little more to where drum is almost able to fit. What do you mean by backing plate? How would I check that? The pistons moved when I bled the brakes therefore I think the cylinder and pistons are good to go however the drum still won’t fit. Any other suggestions?
1999 Ford Ranger - Why did my e brake spring/cable cause my drum to not go back on?

I recently just replaced my rear brakes on my 1999 Ford Ranger. My right side went smooth and I was able to put the Drum back on with no issues. I then started my left side and got everything relaxed correctly such as the springs, brake shoes, cylinder, etc. After putting everything back together, I then went to put my drum back on. It would not fit so I made sure the star adjuster was closed all the way, which it was, I then released the e brake and bled the brakes. Neither of those were the issue so I decided to disconnect the e brake cord which allowed me to have the e brake shoe align perfectly and put the drum back on. What do I need to do?
The backing plate is the the part your wheel cylinder and all brake parts attach, literally the plate you attach everything to. They can get hit and bent. Without a defective part somewhere I'm at a loss as to what can be wrong? By you saying bleeding the brakes helped I'm still thinking the wheel cylinder is the issue though.
Yeah, I went ahead and removed the ebrake bracket from the brake shoe. I disconnected the pin and the shoes seated finally and I was able to fit the drum on perfectly. So could my brake cable be worn out and bad?
