94 Ford Ranger - I took it to smog, failed the EVAP portion, got a diagnostic, fuel filler neck was leaking (makes sense, was leaking a lot of gas while filling up), read about it on the internet and decided to have a dealer replace it. The smog guy now explained it's the wrong cap with the wrong threads to be able to take an EVAP test. The dealer kind of was in denial at first about the whole thing and blamed the smog people, but I brought photos and a very clear explanation of the issue and they investigated further. They are saying the part number was changed and matches the VIN provided, so this is the correct and modern part.
Has anyone run into this? I know I can go to a smog referee and probably figure it out, but I prefer to get a different part from the dealer if possible. I feel like I just need more evidence for them that there is a different part.
The part listed on my receipt appears to be AL5Z*9034*A. I found these links for A (on receipt) and B (your listing) and they both point to the same 93-97 with a different wheelbase. I have the 125 wheelbase, so I think the A they sold me is the correct and modern part? Does that sound right?
If this was the right part, any thoughts on it not having the correct threads for a smog machine? Maybe the dealer is accurate that they just don't produce the same part with the same threads and I'll need to go to a smog ref?
The gas cap fits all 1994 Rangers regardless of wheelbase or engine size, actually all 1993-1997 Rangers
So the filler end will also match gas cap, just the rubber hose length would be different, base on gas tank size, longer wheel base has 20gal tank, shorter a 17gal tank
I think the smog guy goofed up
All they do is seal the tank and see if it holds a slight vacuum, he probably couldn't get it to seal

This one is super weird. I went to three smog places after the deal told me similar info. Finally, the third guy really showed me everything and I took a picture of the different caps. What the smog person was saying was that cars in 96 started having a leak sensor, so EVAP tests weren't necessary. Since they weren't necessary, they haven't updated the EVAP nozzle to fit more modern fuel filler necks.
Here's my picture with my cap on the left and the second from the left is the EVAP machine cap that would fit the standard thread from 95 and before. And yes, the smog people's problems were getting a seal.
HELP! I have a 1985 Ford Ranger 2.3L long-bed. Been in family since 1988 and we love the truck. California emissions passed in flying colors, but there is an EVAP leak in the fuel filler neck/hose. Dealer says part E5TZ9034B (fuel filler neck assembly) is discontinued, and I have contacted the online parts companies and no one can find one. Anyone have any ideas to help us keep our beloved Ranger on the road. Thank you, Rich

In case it's related to the issue above and to close out the part of the thread I was involved in... I ended up discussing with the dealer further, and they recommended taking it to a smog ref in CA, although they weren't confident this was the only part available. The smog ref was very familiar with situation and they have now labeled the part so it can get smogs in the field going forward.
Yes, I saw that one. It is just the hose, not the entire assembly. My mechanic has asked me to find a new assembly including the cap, metal neck, rubber hose...to the tank. And when I called their phone number the recorded message says they are closed. Not sure they're in business anymore!
