Nissan Frontier vs. Ford Ranger

2005 vs. 2005

I think the Ranger may have some trouble. As far as sales go I doubt it, but when comparing trucks I had to choose today I woudl go with the frontier. It just has a lot more options. i guess it is mostly b/c Ford has neglected our poor trucks for so long.

ok let the discussion begin

Little rangers might be old and in need of a face lift but its still one of the top dogs. Does nissian's new supercharger have more than 210 hp?? And toy's 4.0L only runs on high octance gas, what is that like $2.50 a gallon, thats why they got more hp than ford 4.0L.

Are you still losing posts, Leo? How careless of you.

I don't want no foreign piece of crap, no matter how ugly or powerful it is.

I totally agree! That is the quote of the year there! You gotta admit though, the new Yota is a very nice truck. Would I buy one? Hell no! But I can admit its a nice truck along with the NISMO...

I guess you can consider one if it's at least BUILT here -- but I'm still on an "as much as possible buy domestic" kick.

Toyota trucks are VERY nice. It's possible to make the argument that some foreign goods are better; but still not be in favor of buying them.

I meant my statement to be "provocative", I'm afraid!

Leo, I remember you lost a post somewhere else (GenEdge banning topic?) which is why I ragged you about it!

I didn't know the 'Yotas required premium fuel. Is that true?! That still doesn't cover the difference in specs.

While I agree w/ your sentiment, I'm not sure I can get behind it 100%. In this day where they make Nissans in Tennessee, Subarus in Indiana, Hondas in Alabama, and VW's in Mexico it gets a little more mirky. A significant number of the parts in these 'Ford' Rangers are probably manufactured overseas anyhow. Even the original design stems from the pre-Ford owned Mazda and a lot of things haven't changed on it since.

I hear where you're comming from, and I'd be lying if I said Ford being an 'American' automaker didn't have something to do w/ my purchase. But it's getting hard to make that 'American' moniker stick..

Unfortunately in the growing world economy you're going to be harder and harder pressed to 'buy American'.

all that is true but Ford GM and Chrysler to a lesser extent now that it merged with mercedes are designed here in the US and are american companies so when you buy one of their products the majority of the money will stay here but if you buy a honda or a toyota you are still pumping money into the japaneese economy since they are still foreign corporations...

Nissans, Toyota, adn honda are made here in the US. Some of our lovely Fords are built in Canada and Mexico. Foreign crap argument is void.

I know the heads of the companys are here for domestic and overseas for nissan etc. BUT I am more concerned about providing thousands of jons here in teh US instead of worrying about where the CEO lives.

I am not going to be blinded by brand loyalty, sorry that is ignorant. I never have liked Chevy's due to desing and my opinion of reliability. I have always had Fords bc I coudl get good deals on them (mom works for ford), but now that I am goign to be making a much higher invvestment than a Ford ranger cost I am looking at the F-150 and Titan. Right now I have to go with the titan. Unless Toyota comes out with a bad *** Tundra soon.

Yeah, I covered that "where it's made" thing in a subsequent post above you probably didn't see before you posted this. It's true though.

My reasoning involves industrial base primarily. Lose it and we're screwed. No more need be said.

I'm pretty sure on that premium fuel thing. I think I read it in a mag. Thats how they get more power out of a 4.0L than ford did. Increase the compression ratio which means you can get more fuel/air (engery) into the cylinder. But by increasing the compression ratio you have to increase the octane rating so the fuel doesn't pre-ignite from the increased pressure instead of from the spark plug.

Some reading material if yall get bored. Nothing to do with buying american, but it is a comparison of the Ranger, Taco, Nismo, & Dakota... very interesting...

i just put this link in a previous post but it influences my thoughts on these so called "trucks" that these foreigners are putting out. it shows you the hard facts. who cares how much power your putting out stock, wut can you get out of it later? and power means nothing without components (frame, suspension, etc..) that cant handle it.

You're not thinking about it very deeply are you? You only see it from a consumer point of view -- give you what you want.

Try another point of view: our own, self managed, industrial capacity is critical to national security and it's bleeding away. If you don't have the facilities and technology IN HAND when the feces hits the rotating blades, you are toast.

The foreign crap argument is valid still. My truck was built in Edison NJ. My company, foreign owned, makes steel here in the US but ALL facilities are here, nothing required from overseas, and could be nationalized in a heartbeat.

Where the CEO lives can be critical if it's a matter of national loyalty -- but I guess you are one of those people who also wants to put America's destiny in the hands of the United Nations as well.

You're part of the problem: you only think like a consumer. You actually thought my comments had something to do with brand loyalty for crying out loud! How misguided can you get.

How's that for provocative?

I looked at Nissans when shopping for my truck. Butt ugly and over equipped. Too much junk loaded on a plastic chassis. I wasn't impressed.

Toyotas are nice but who wants to say " Yeah, I got me a Toy Taco with the optional TuRD pack"?
