The Ranger and Explorer dimmers are different. The OHC will not dim using the Ranger's dimmer switch.

I dont know what you are talking about. They are exactly the same. In my 02 where I had the console installed, it dimmed just like the dash and the radio did.

Make sure that the blue/red wire on the ohc harness is tapped into the blue/red wire on the radio harness. If this is done, then you should have normal dimmer function on the OHC.

My OHC dims, too...both the 99 I originally had and the 95 guts I later swapped in and currently use.

Well I know they behave differently for me...

The 99 OHC guts I had would dim but go back to full brightness if I turned the dimmer all the way down...but the 95 guts don't do that. Also, I replaced the 99 guts because it stopped working after a few weeks...which I initially attributed to it just having been through such an accident...but now I think I will do an autopsy. If the difference is that the later Explorer dimmer module uses PWM to control the dash brightness as opposed to the rheostat or whatever is used otherwise, I wouldn't think that it would make any difference...for a regular bulb it shouldn't...but because the type of display in the OHC isn't a simple LED display or a backlit LCD, it could matter depending on how the OHC controls the brightness of the display. I think I'll do some exploring in the 99 OHC guts I still have and see if I can figure it out.

Ya know what, Mine was from a 1997 and I swapped the lens out for the newer green color. I bet is a year dependent thing..

I'm beginning to think the same thing. It looks like earlier model consoles may have the LB/RD illumination wire instead of RD/BK and they may also be dimmer compatible with the Ranger dimmer module. Just guessing though.
