Parking lights stay on no matter what.
Parking lights stay on no matter what.
I have parking lights that refuse to shut off even with the headlight switch and behind ashtray relay removed. They do go off if I pull the fuse from the inside left fuse panel, # 10 spot which is supposed to be..park, licence, RABSkeep alive power (whatever keep alive power means) and stop lamps. It also keeps frying turn signal relays It making me disconnect the battery every time I exit the truck. HELP ME PLEASE
Welcome to the forum
I assume you have a Ford Ranger
Need a year and a model or at least engine size and manual or automatic trans
If you have a 1995 and up then you have a Parking Light Relay that is most likely stuck closed, it has power full time so if stuck closed parking lights would stay on all the time
The Light switch itself just opens and closes the Park Light Relay
If you post the year I can tell you what fuse it is or where Relay might be, Ford moved it around
Parking light relay was added for Keyless entry, so RAPS module could flash the parking lights when locking and unlocking the doors with a Fob
So if you have keyless entry then it could also be RAPS module issue, it is holding relay closed, again year would be helpful
KAP or KAM(keep alive power or memory) is used on all sorts of things, most common example are clocks and Radios, if power is taken away when key is off then you would have to reset the clock every time to got back in the vehicle.
You would also have to redo radio Pre-sets each time.
You probably know this now because of unhooking the battery daily
KAP is used to hold the memory in a few automotive applications, clock and radio as said, but also engine computer, it needs to remember Long Term Fuel Trims, and IAC valve voltages, also TPS voltages.
So your idle may wander a bit and acceleration could lag a bit until computer re-Learns voltages
EDIT:
Are you sure the Park Lights are on, not turn signals, same bulb on some years, just two different filaments inside
If license plate bulb is on then it is Park lights that are still getting power
If Flashers are burning out then you do have a short

94 xlt 4x4, 4.0. Found melted wiring behind headlight switch plug/receiver. Followed them into the harness where they appeared undamaged, spliced in a bone yard switch plug. Found t spllces on tail light only on driver side for trailer light harness began to wonder if those overloaded the wiring as they seemed to be the only splices for the trailer pig tail?
Success
I opened up all the harness visible including the column. Found no further damage. Lucked out when bone yard plug worked fine. Discovered factory harness coupling at left rear of frame under the bed. Ordered factory T for trailer hitch/ harness. I have to believe the jackleg job using only left side light wiring caused the meltdown from an overloaded left side. So be careful you don't do the same thing to your vehicle and smoke your main harness. Thank you all who contributed.
