Pats issue…Swapping 03 2.3l to a 99 3.0
Pats issue…Swapping 03 2.3l to a 99 3.0
So week before thanksgiving I had the motor in my 1999 3.0 ranger go out so I’ve have swapped a 2003 2.3l manual into the truck and having everything put together. So my problem is that when I turned the key there is no noise and the anti theft light is flashing. I have swapped the ignition and ecu and have also tried with the anti theft module out and in with the old key next to the new one. I know for the 03 the ecu and antitheft are one but not for the 99’s. So if anyone has any info on what it could be or just some info on the swap I’d appreciate it! Thanks.
Yes, there will be a few wires that need changing
1999 and 2003 PATS diagrams below
The Transceiver is the same in both years just wired differently
In 1999 its powered and grounded by the PATS module, but the good news is there is Key on Power and a Ground wire at the PATS module location, so you can just cut and splice those wires together
Pin 16 red/green wire is 12v key on, that will be spliced to pin 10 green/white wire 12v out to transceiver pin 2
Pin 7 black/white wire, ground, will be spliced to pin 14 black/yellow wire ground for Pin 1 on transceiver
Now the harder part, lol
There are 4 wires that will need to be extended to the new 2003 Computer, because as you said PATS is INSIDE the 2003 computer
2 wires for the transceiver
1 wire for the THEFT light
1 wire for the Starter Relay ground
Transceiver pins 3 and 4 on PATS module are pins 11 and 13 respectively
So the wires on pins 11 and 13 need to be extended to the computers pins 17 and 18 respectively, these wires should still be on the 2003 harness, just need to find them, they would have run to the engine bay side of firewall
THEFT light wire is pin 8 on PATS Module, it need to run to computers pin 30
Starter Relay ground is pin 1 on PATS module, it needs to run to computers pin 44
On the diagram 1999 PATS, it has NCA(no color assigned) for any wires between connector C255 and module, but the pin numbers are valid
