Possible to Repurpose 4x4 switch?

I don't know much about using electricity, which I think is just a fad anyway, but I still want to try a project. I'm wondering if it is feasible to use the currently unused rotating 2WD/4WD selector switch on my 2000 2WD Ranger's dash bezel in order to activate aux lights instead of switching between 2WD and 4WD, which is not something I can do with my 2WD truck. Maybe the first selection of the switch can be made to turn on one set of lights and the next selection can turn on a second set of lights. The stock connector has four wires coming out of it. I assume that on a truck with 4WD, each pair of wires would normally go to a relay which would then somehow switch between the two drive modes.

So could the rotating selector switch be wired to basically take the place of two toggle switches to do what I'm trying to accomplish?

If so, does anyone know how the pins are arranged? I mean, starting from one side of the switch, are the first two pins connected to a pos/neg pair of wires for the first circuit and then the next two pins connected to a pos/neg pair of wires for the second circuit? is it that simple?

Thanks

No, it can't, it only has 2 wires(other 2 wires are to light it up, back light)

It doesn't have an on/off, the 2 wires are always connected, but thru 3 different resistors
Each resistor's value means something to the 4x4 Controller
Resistor 1 = 2WD
Resistor 2 = 4High
Resistor 3 = 4Low

You could build circuit to respond to each resistor, like the Controller does, but would take some electronics training
So, no

No reason you can't take off the **** and use it on a different type of switch, there are several types of rotary switches that could be used, just look around online

Thanks a lot for your explanation. That helps me avoid a lot of trial and error, and failure, and I learned just as much!
