Power Window Problem

I have a 2002 Ranger XLT. I'm having a problem with the driver's side power window. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The problem started about a week after we got some heavy rains. The drains at the bottom of the door were plugged with dirt and grass and there was quite a bit of water sloshing around inside the door. I don't know how high the water was or if it got on the power window motor, but it is mounted quite low in the door. So a few days later I went to roll down the window and it went down really slowly. I rolled it back up and it went really slowly too. Then it wouldn't move. It's been a few days now, and now the window either works normally at the normal speed or it doesn't work at all. The times when it doesn't work, I hear a clicking sound coming from under the steering column when I push the down button. The passenger side window works normally all the time.
I think it's the window motor that is bad, but I can't understand why sometimes it works fine and other times it doesn't work at all.
Has anyone ever had this happen?

Clean the contacts on the switch with sandpaper, apply some die-electric grease to the wire connector and the switch. This has worked for me previously, but good luck.

I have a 2013 Ford ranger that was recalled for an issue with the door locks, when I took the car to the dealers all windows were operating without any problems, when I collected the car only the passengers windows were still operating correctly, the drivers window would not stay up and the rear drivers door window did not operate at all. I informed the dealer of this and was told to return the car.
I then returned the car back for rectification, upon collection I was informed that the rear passenger window motor was burnt out, although it had worked fine the first time I took the car to them. The dealer has now refused to accept any blame for the burnt out window motor and also refused to replace and correct the problem. I have written to Ford Australia and reported the issue but have not received any response so I am left with the cost of replacing the window motor which was obviously burnt out by something the did, not happy with Ford or the gutless dealer.

My driver's window failed due to crud in the gears

After bouncing around on some rough terrain in my 2002 Ranger, my driver's side window stopped working. As you described, I could hear something click when I pushed the button, and could see the power drain in other systems while I held the button down (so I didn't do that much...)

The fix was I removed the window regulator and cleaned the crud out of the gears. After removal, it took some thumping to get the thing moving at all before I cleaned it, but I was able to get it moving and then did a thorough cleaning and lube. Now that it's reassembled it works great, and with all the attention my driver's door window will now open and close much, much faster, smoother, and quieter than the passenger door window that has not been cleaned.

However, getting the regulator out and then back in had me ready to scrap the truck at times. The regulator is held in by rivets, and drilling them out presented the first significant (hours long) challenge. Have to admit the sheet metal on the door to which the regulator is attached suffered some collateral damage in the process. Then, re-mounting the regulator was no more fun - there just isn't any room to get screws or bolts held in place while trying to attach a nut, and no way to hold the screw/bold on the back side while trying to tighten the nut on the front side. (I don't have a rivet gun, and didn't want to purchase one just for this, and as I mentioned earlier, the sheet metal on the door suffered somewhat during removal and I doubt new rivets would have held tight.) So, I would advise that you start this project early in the day and you maybe do some meditation first. (It's also why I rejuvenated my old one - with the effort to remove mine, I had no interest in going to a boneyard and going through the process a second time to obtain a transplant part.)
