Power Window Problem - 2005 Ranger
Power Window Problem - 2005 Ranger
My passenger window currently is working intermittently. The wifey had an issue with it stuck down a couple weeks ago, but once the truck restarted it was fine.
Today my driver side door switch stopped working. The passenger switch worked, but only the down function. Both switches would not fail simultaneously, and passenger still works going down.
I had the whole window assembly and glass fixed about 6 months ago, as the truck got broken into, so was thinking maybe the regulator or motor at first. I hear no clicking, or power at all, so 95% it is electrical / electronic.
Is there a power window relay for the 2005 or like a master common relay?

The Master switch in drivers door is where to start, it provides the ground for the passenger door switch
Yes there is a power window fuse and relay, but if passenger side window rolled down then both doors switches have 12volts with key on
The relay just turns on the 12volts that goes to each switch with key on, there are no relays for the windows themselves, i.e. up/down relays like door locks have
Power windows are ground controlled
If you unplug the 2 wire connector on either window motor, and both switches are plugged in, then BOTH wires will test as good grounds, 0 ohms to body ground
What either switch does is to change one wire from ground to 12v when its pressed, so window motor now has 1 ground wire and 1 12v wire so it spins, which wire gets the 12v decides which way it spins, window up or window down
Very simple setup and been used for 50+ years
To have a Master switch to control another window requires 2 ground wires from the master to the other door/switch, even for 4 windows, 2 wires from Master to each door/switch
So the Master must have a good ground as its the ONLY Ground for the whole system
Master switch gets used the most so most likely to fail
The Master doesn't provide 12v to the passenger door switch, just the grounds, the 12v comes from a wire from fuse/relay, so the passenger door switch can also control that window's motor, but it must have BOTH grounds from the Master switch to work in BOTH directions, up and down
On 2004 and up Rangers the power window relay is in the SJB so not a serviceable part also the "one touch relay", this one touch relay can not effect passenger door at all
2006 power window diagram below, same wiring as 2005
Test the grounds at the Master, and at the 2 motor wires
Also light blue/black wire for 12v with key on
