Non Ranger Tech - Kia Rio
Alright fellas. Need some help here. So the new girlfriend has an issue with her car. It seems to have an odd squeek at speeds between 10-50 mph and when turning left. It doesn't happen all the time, but from when I've been in the car it much more prone to happen when turning left. Also, as a side note, lets not get started on the fact she owns a Kia yet. I'll work on that one if I'm in the relationship long enough. Haha....
From what I can tell it sounds to be coming from the passenger side front tire.
I put the car up on jacks last night and revved up the speed a little bit and she was quiet as could be. Tried turning and nothing. So obviously probably not coming from the transaxle.
Anyway, my thinking at this point is a bearing or ball joint of some sort, but I figured I'd poll you guys as I'm not the best at pinpointing problems.
I did a quick google search and this was one of the first pages that came up:
http://www.discountautoparts.com/aut...all-Joint.html
Seems odd to have an entire page dedicated to something if it wasn't something that was prone to failure so I'm leaning that way right now.
If you agree that it's the balljoint, how hard are those things to change? From what I've been read I know it's tough without a press of some sort (but in my experience a BFH sometimes works just as well, especially considering a press only helps if you can remove the entire knuckle or control arm setup).
Anyway, enlighten me O' car gurus of R-F. I need to appear smart to the new lady.
Like the saying goes, "If they can't find you handsome, at least they can find you handy."
