push button start without using key???

Father in law is in kind of a pickle here. The ignition switch actuator rod inside his steering column broke the other day. Before I realized that was the problem, I replaced the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch. The truck with start just fine, but you cannot shut the truck off at all. You can turn the key to the off position and even take the keys out, but it stays running. You can stall the vehicle with the clutch but all the lights and radio stay on.My question is, is there a way to add a push button to start it? I realize I might have to add a toggle switch or acc. spot of the ignition, but is this possible?
Little bit of info on the truck-- 95 ranger 4x2 with 2.3 engine and manual transmission.
Any help is appreciated, as I will be helping fit this and don't really want to tear down the column or swap it out.

Personally, I would go to a salvage yard and get another actuator rod and replace that. Why would you go to all the trouble to rewire all that?

Have you looked into how to replace it? Doesn't look like this is going to be the most fun job.

Not sure how different a 1995 is from a 2003 model, but I replaced the steering column in mine and swapped all the switching stuff over to my tilt unit. Wasn't bad at all. But, the 95 could be a completely different animal.

Watch this video for '96 aerostar, just wrench work, and puller, c-clip pliers are needed: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww0VbPEhH-k

well, we just decided to go to the yard and get another column. Didn't need a puller, and was in and out within 30 min or so.
