rack & pinion problem

Hi I'm new to this forum here is my problem my 2001 ford ranger 2wd jerks when you turn the wheel the pump is full of fluid and makes no noise. The alignment man said it was the rack & pinion this is the first dealing with rack and pinion. Has anyone changed or worked on one ? How hard are they to change or can you rebuild them? Thanks for any help you can give. T.O.

Locate the tensioner for the serpentine belt and check to make sure it is not frozen in one position. If the belt is not kept tight enough , it could slip on the power steering pump pulley.
