Radiator fan size question
Radiator fan size question
I'm eyeing an electric fan. Trouble is for my 2.5L the site says I can have either a 12", 14", or 16" fan. Is that true? I thought the 2.5L Lima's all had the same size fan? I can measure the fan as best as possible (my truck is getting paint right now so isn't available), but what size radiator fan is this engine supposed to have?
V6 Ranger probably used a 16"
4cyl 14" or 15"
For electric its more about the motor and CFM(cubic feet per minute) of air it can move than the size of the fan
CFM depends on number of blades and the curve of the blades, the bigger the twist/curve of the blade the more air it can move BUT.............that also makes it noisier
Mechanical fans are the same but CFM is dependent on the engine RPM
General rule for whats needed
4 cylinder 2,000-2,200 CFM
V6 2,200-2,400
V8 2,400--2,600
Doesn't hurt to run higher CFM, e-fan it will just be off more, two speed fans are nice for that
For mechanical fans at idle of 750rpms they generate about 1,100 CFM, at 2,500rpm about 2,400CFM
E-fans do the same CFM when on, which is why 2 speeds are nice, 2-speed are usually 2,000cfm and 3,000cfm, Ford Taurus used these
All this is based on the fan SHROUD covering the whole radiator, so air is being pulled thru, OR pushed thru, the whole radiator not just the center where fan is
