Random electrical circuit fail codes
Random electrical circuit fail codes
hello! New to this sight. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 and my check engine light came on and I have these codes under GEM memory codes:
p1808, p1804, b1323, p1878, p1832, p1483, b1483, p0500, b1352.
They all came at the same time, and they all reappear if I clear the codes. And I have no symptoms that I can tell. Could this be a failing battery? GEM module? Really bad luck? Lol any info would be helpful

Welcome to the forum
Since you have to look up the codes it's best to post what they mean so we don't have to do it, lol
Power train codes
P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
P1483 - Fan Circuit Shorted To Ground <<<<<< 4.0l doesn't use an electric fan
P1804 - 4WD High Indicator Circuit Open/Shorted To Ground
P1808 - 4WD Low Indicator Circuit Open/Short To Ground
P1832 - Transfer Case 4WD Solenoid Circuit Open/Short To Ground
P1878 - Transfer Case Disengaged Solenoid Circuit Failure
Body codes
B1323 - Door Ajar Lamp Circuit Failure
B1352 - Ignition Key-In Circuit Failure
B1483 - Brake Pedal Input Circuit Failure
The GEM(generic electronics module) is also called the BCM(body control module)
All these codes are related to systems the GEM controls
None would cause vehicle issues but 4WD shouldn't be working now.
Speedometer shouldn't be working with P0500, if it is then it is looking more like GEM failure but check these other things
There are 4 fuses to check in the cab fuse box
#10, #20, #25, #28, all are 7.5 amp fuses
These all provide power to GEM
If all are good then you will need to pull out the radio to get to GEM which is mounted behind it
Check the GEM connectors
And yes, you may need to replace it if everything else seems OK
No, on the battery, you would have other issues if that was the problem
Some people have removed GEM from it's case, cleaned it with De-ox or non-residue alcohol and got it working again, free to try.
