Ranger no power no idle truck wont go faster then 45
Thanks for letting me on first off.
Having a problem with my 92 ranger xlt 4x4 5spd. 2.9L
Last night I was driving along(55-65 when all of a sudden truck mil light came on and suddenly lost power.I could not get it faster then 45-50.in 5th then when I came to a stop it wont idle and stay running.I have to hold foot on gas pedal to keep it running.I also noticed that I have to feather gas pedal to get it up around 3k rpm.Pulled plugs and they are getting black , Fuel pressure is at 40psi and isnt misfiring.ITruck has had new plugs wires cap rotor(motorcraft parts).its like its starving for fuel.I checked and its getting a large amount of fuel supply at 40 psi. When KOEO it sounds like fuel is working as it is flowing fuel and back to the tank.Up till now it was running ok , didnt have a whole lot of power but it would get up to 65.Now its like if I push fast on the pedal it starts spuddering/popping and if I try to push pedal to WOT it starts popping and shuddering immediately and struggles to get rmps up to 3k.Doesn't want to go over 3k without feathering and easing pedaI. I can ease it up to 3k but takes feathering and slow pedal movment.I tried to pull codes with the jump wire method but it just doesn't do nothing.I jumped out the single wire to the right side (think#2) terminal on the dia plug on the row which has 2 slots but only one slot has a terminal on it.then go into cab and turn key and nothing, acts like normal key operation.
Any ideas where to start?
I have scanner on the way but guessing that being the jumper wont work neither will the scanner.I did also notice that I have only 2 relays under the fuse block by air box. There is a extra connector there that isn't hook to anything but it has 2 other relays one with a green connctor plugged into a relay and other has a brown connector plugged into relay.
Is it possible to have a bad injector or two go out which causes it to do this.Notice sometimes I can start it and foot off pedal it will lobe like its trying to idle then it dies finally. It goes like 900 then down to 200 or so then back up to 900-1000 and back down then dies after a few times of this.
Checked to see if timing jumped or chain jumped but nope , piston is up on TDC or TC and rotor is pointed at number one spark plug wire.Pulled Neg bat cable to clear codes but didnt work , light popped on and still acting the same when I started engine. Is it possible the Ign module is causing this?I dont think it is O2 related because I unpluged O@ sensor and no change even after removing pos..Doesnt the o2 system not engage till operating temp so it wouldnt be problem and toss a MIL right off the bat after clearing ECM faults? If pump was causing this it would either be showing poor pressure readings or low Quanity delivery which it is not.PSI is at 40 then drops to 38 but jumps back up after starting to 40-42psi and while raising engine rpm it goes from 38-42psi.New filter and pump module about 2 months old(had to replace rear shackles, bushings and replaced pump/filter while I had bed off).I am thinking its either down to the ECM or IGN module/pickup.Reason I lean to ECM is fact of Dia plug issue also having and cant jump and get CEL codes/sanner wont work with plug.Anyone else had problems with the DIA plug ? Is there anything else in the system other then ECM , MAP , IGN Module,TEMP sender ? Does this year even have a crank or cam sensor yet(haven't seen them on engine).I did notice it has a oil heater on it also, or is this a your low on oil Idiot light Sender.

Well as I thought , scanner doesnt work either.Plug it in and scanner light lights up steady and audio tone comes on the second I connect the actron scanner.Turn key on and nothing.... no flashes on scanner either...
Surely someone can advise where to start.
I noticed if I give engine a vacume leak it idles without dieing if that matters.
Would a ECM failure cause these issues I have? I dont want to just part swap till I find the issue as this is costly and not the proper way to find a problem. Is there a way to test map sensor, I unplugged it at the intake manifold distribution block by the throttle body and it idles good until I block vacume leak with finger then it goes to is lobe idle and dies out. I tried the test light way of pulling codes too and when I hook up the test light to the pos bat termail and touch the dia plug as in the diagrapham it lights up instanly and then it gets brighter when I KOEO....and nothing happens but I hear the sound of fuel circulating in the fuel rail.

I fixed it.
Narrowed it down to a defective ECM Or EEC which ever makes you sleep at night better calling it.
Thanks for all the great help as it really was appreciated. I guess this is what a person gets when they come to a place in a forum designed to help with Technical issues and problems.Very nice that you people take the time to help others out with problems.I guess it take special people who are willing to at least try to help offer help instead of just ignoring a person who seeks helps.I guess all these years of ripping off others on repairs has caused some Mechanics/Technicians to just feel the need to join forums and not offer help to others who ask for it.At a point in your life when your gasping for your last breath and the nurse feels the need to not help a person in need , you'll remember all those times you could have helped out but choose not to.
Very Sad People , Unlike you I will always help.........

heh, might as well delete your account buddy, you wont get any help for sure now. an attitude like that wont get you far for one - and then getting pissed that nobody answered your question on a forum board? LOL. there are hot spots and cold spots when it comes to activity on forums, some days are busy with lots of traffic, some days are slow with near to no traffic at all. if you are that impatient, go to a shop yourself and ask someone in person. THAT is your best bet. hell even go to a dealership if youd like and ask the service dept some questions. no point in getting butt hurt here just because noone helped the way you wouldve liked.
