Keyless Entry/Remote Start
Ok. I have been wanting keyless entry since I've gotten my ranger, no power locks suck. I want a good alarm/keyless entry/remote start with the LCD screen, (I'll be honest I think the screen is badass). But the thing is, I dont know what to look at. I was on crutchfield and was looking at the crime guard systems. They look reasonably priced and do everything I want, but all I really hear much about is the python/viper systems (from which my understanding are the same, along with several other companies).
So I need some suggestions.
What system do you have/recommend.
What brand door lock actuators to get.
How difficult is it to install all of it?

I got some cheap one off ebay that came with actuators. It was only $119 and then whatever shipping was. Mine is made by Scytek and it has the two way reciever which I really like. Also came with remote start but never hooked it up. You gonna install it yourself?

ive hooked upa a few alarms, cheap ones and vipers. the good thing about the vipers and quality brand alarms is that they are gonna mostly have built in relays and unlike Robert you wont have to worry about a ton. Here is basically your choice. Get plain ole door lock actuators w/o the remtotes, get a nice alarm and just and wire the actuators to the good alarm. 2nd choice. just buy the A1A complete kit.

A1A?
I'm thinking about getting the Viper 5901. I found it for like 300$. The only thing I wanna know is do I have to get a "vehicle specific interface"?

and is there a door lock actuator you recommend?

I got a quote for like 449$ installed. but i dont think that includes the bypass and door lock actuators, im waiting to see what they say, because i told them i need the actuators...
If thats right im getting it installed there, 449$ is cheap as hell.
edit:
50 bucks each door. a guy that i work with at my dealership says 100 installed plus 60$ per door. I'll add it up and we'll see.

Look for a Titan, they are hands down the best on the market
and while your at it, do not get a compustar.
and most importantly, get it installed somewhere that is very reputable.
Mine got installed by some yahoo's that the dealer subcontracted. its been "fixed" 7 times and completely replaced once... and it currently isnt working again.
so be careful where you get it installed, lotsa places just hire kids to throw these things in.

A guy at the dealership that i work for says he'd install for 100 plus 60 for each door. If I get it from ebay or somewhere for 300$ it'd be worth it, but I still am not exactly sure about the bypass module, if i need that for remote start, that might be the deal breaker, thats an extra 80$ I have to spend to get a feature that is "included" in my system, which i think is BS.

I installed my own, Compustar remote start, door actuators and a T-harness. T-harness was hard to find but made life easy after I figured out the color combos.
Compustar was $15 from eBay, door lock kit was $30 from ebay.....T-harness was $21.
The door lock actuators was for a 4 door, had the relay and harness all mounting hardware...everything took 10 hours total to install. Used the12volt.com for the wiring colors and location.....those guys are installers and very helpful.

Unfortunately your stuck. It wont work. what happens is the bypass module sends a signal to the remote start saying " yes a coded key is present" which in turn allows your cars pcm to allow it to be turned on. without the bypass module is no coded key signal.
