I've already searched the entire web and it seems I can't find a definite fix for this problem. The RPMs on my ranger seem to stay up until I have completely stopped.
I've got the 2.5L 4 banger 5 speed.
For example:
*Driving @ 50mph and there's a red light ahead.
*Shift into neutral. Stays at about 1500RPM regardless of A/C on or off.
*When I come to a complete stop it finally drops to ~800RPM.
I've cleaned the MAF, TB, lubricated the throttle, replaced the IACV, cleaned all electrical connections (including the TPS).
1) Could it be a faulty TPS?
2) I don't think its a vacuum leak because wouldn't that cause the idle to be erratic all the time?
3) Any other ideas?

Clean the IAT sensor and the MAF, my 2000 did the same thing.. 2.5L 5spd... Never cared to figure it out before I sold it, but cleaning those sensors helped decrease the amount of times it did it to me.
Just came back inside after cleaning the IAT.
MAF has been cleaned as well.
Still messed up.
I have no idea whats wrong with this thing.

Mine sorta does that. Just not as long as you. Mine will increase when i push in on the clutch to shift, and if i rev it up standing still it will hang and slowly come down. Rather annoying.
Yes I'm guilty of the throttle cable mod.
I think I'm gonna cut some of the zip ties off and see if it fixes something.
I'm also gonna test the TPS today and readjust the idle screw with the IACV unplugged because I think the previous owner messed with it.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

TPS voltage is at 0.85v closed and 4.5v WOT. Theres definitely enough slack in the throttle cable. I'm thinking that this IACV could possible be faulty. I might try to built a restrictor plate.
Can anyone else chime in?
