So does a pats system have to be rest or key reconnected after a bad battery??
So does a pats system have to be rest or key reconnected after a bad battery??
I put a new battery on my 00 ranger and the theft light blinks and turn the key nothing happens. This was after truck been sitting awhile and dead battery. Placed new battery and its still doing same thing. Does the key have to be resynced to pats module?
No, PATS key numbers are saved in non-volatile memory, doesn't need power to hold memory, for many many years
THEFT light will flash every 5-10 seconds when key is OFF, thats normal, its a Theft Deterrent
With key ON you should see CEL(check engine light) come on and stay on, that means Computer(PCM) has booted up
THEFT light should come on and then go OFF, if it flashes rapidly then wait with key on for 45-60seconds, the THEFT light will then start to flash a 2 digit Code, 11 to 16
That code tells you why PATS has prevented start up, it will repeat 5 or 6 times, a long pause, 1 flash, short pause, then 1 to 6 flashes, long pause again........
11 Transceiver [transponder coil] not connected, or there is no power to it.
12 Transceiver internal fault.
13 No Key/no PATS key has been used to turn the ignition switch.
14 Incomplete key code received.
15 Invalid key code received.
16 CAN communications error.
If no rapid Flashing THEFT light then its NOT a PATS issue
In 2000 PATS fuses are 19 and 26 in Cab fuse box
The transceiver is the powered antenna around the key slot, black plastic ring with 4 wires, it is a more common failure on PATS, it can be swapped out, no reprogramming is required
And just as a Heads Up
If you try to start engine 4 or 5 times and get the Flashing THEFT Light, PATS will go into LOCK DOWN Mode, you have to wait 90minutes to retry start up
Its a Theft Prevention Mode, unhooking battery doesn't shorten the time, it has capacitor timer

Yes, but they are B codes, body codes not P codes powertrain codes
B1213 Less than 2 (or 3 if equipped w/Valet key) keys programmed to the system.
B1232/B2103 Transceiver internal antenna damaged. Replace transceiver.
B1342 ECU is defective (EEPROM in PCM is not working — replace PCM). PATS related when stored in PCM only.
B1600 Non-PATS Key or damaged key.
B1601 Unprogrammed encoded ignition key detected (leave ignition on for 20 seconds before trying a programmed key, in Anti-Scan Mode).
B1602 Partial detection of encoded ignition key.
B1681 Transceiver signal not detected.
B2141 Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) configuration failure — No PCM ID stored in PATS.
B2139/U2510 PCM ID does not match between the PCM and PATS control(PATS/ICM/VIC/HEC/SCIL).
B2431 Key program failure (defective key or transceiver).
Not sure on the years, 1999/2000 should for sure fit, in 1998 PATS was an "option" on V6 models so it would also work if it was there
PATS was not available in 4cyl Rangers until late 2001, so V6 only in 1999/2000
If you get the part number off of yours that should cross reference to what years will fit
The transceiver itself is just a powered antenna so any would "work" just wouldn't fit on the 2000 key assembly
