i recently replaced all of the bulbs in the inst cluster and now my speedo, odo, and wipers are unresponsive. tried fuses, checked wiring and bulb connections and nothing has helped need ideas.
truck is 2000 xlt with the 2.5l and manual trans

Speedo/odo use the same signal, a wire from GEM Module, wipers also use GEM module

GEM is behind the radio

Check fuses 10, 20 and 25 in cab fuse box, all 7.5amp they power up the GEM

Fuse 16 powers the wipers but no connection to speedo/odo

With fuses you HAVE TO pull them out and have a look but way way better to test them with OHM Meter

 

checked all fuses looked good. truck is now throwing code p0500 and p1506

 

P0500 is because of no speed signal, from GEM

Is the ABS light on?
If not then problem is at the GEM or wiring from it

ABS uses same speed sensor as GEM in a 2000 Ranger, if ABS light was also on the could be speed sensor issue but no ABS light means thats not the issue

GEM is just to the right of the cluster, but behind the radio, did you pull on any wire coming from the right?

GEM also has 2 ground points/wires on the firewall

Does the dome light work, does it come on when door is open?
And does the door AJAR light come on?
Both are also operated by the GEM

 

no abs or door ajar light dome light was ripped out by previous owner because door sesors thought door was always open i fixed it easily. i did disconnect all three plugs on back of cluster but i made sure they where all plugged in correctly with dielectric grease because that was my first thought.
made sure to only pull on the connector in case of messing up any wires

 

update found fuse 26 is blown

 

replaced fuse problem solved thanks for all your help

 

That's why it's best to replace or check with a continuity tester any suspect fuse.

diagram i had listed 26 as unrelated so i didnt check it until i saw a similar post with it as the culprit so i checked it. lo and behold the culprit was found.

 

2000 Ranger fuse 26 10 amp = At least according to the owners manual, controls these.

Battery Saver Relay,
Electronic Shift Relay,
Interior Lamp Relay,
Power Window Relay,
Electronic Shift Control Module,
Dome/Map Lamp,
GEM,
Instrument Cluster
