Hey folks, I'm looking for some help on an issue with my 1993 Ford Ranger.

My engine is sporadically getting bogged down, to the point where it sometimes dies. At it's worst, the engine will slow down when I press the acceleration. I recently replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, fuel system was very dirty but seems to be better after that work. Any leads or help would be much appreciated.

 

I also checked the transmission level and oil, which both were ok the oil light did come on a while ago.

 

I would look at the spark system
Pull spark plugs and see what the tips tell you for each cylinder, should be light brown color on white electrode, dark color can mean oil burning or too Rich fuel mix
Pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor and cap contacts are clean
When you accelerate computer adds a Richer mix which can drowned out weaker spark

Check base spark timing, 10-12deg BTDC

 

Did you check for engine codes?

Also, auto trans has a vacuum modulator that sometimes leaks. Pulls vacuum off your intake manifold and can leak oil back up into your engine.

Not sure that's the exact one for your engine - check trans code.
