Swapped to a manual!! Where’s my speedometer?
When you had your PCM programmed did you have to go out and find yourself a VIN that would work for your truck? Or was the person who programmed it able to just make one up that would work? I'm wondering if I'll need to go out and find a VIN that works for me from another 2001 that has a manual, V6 4.0.
Ok so I just got off the phone with FS1 and they are telling me some interesting things. Like we established here, the VIN is not transmission specific. So therefore my original VIN should work for the PCM. They programmed with my original VIN and they also said that they programmed my PCM so that it wouldn't even recognize any sort of automatic transmission stuff. But I had those codes from the auto even with their tune.
So if what they're telling me is true, I shouldn't be having the issues I'm having. I'm wondering if I'd be better off getting my money back and then either dealing with the engine lights with my auto PCM and maybe one of these days pull one along with keys/lock cylinders from a donor. I wonder if my speedometer would come back with a donor PCM too!

That sounds like an excellent situation lol
He also traded me driveshafts, the shifter with cupholder thing, and some other small things. I don't know if I could have done the swap without him because the junkyards here don't really have any 2001-2011 Rangers, let alone the same year with the same options. Most of the ones I see are 2.3 trucks. I got lucky that I even found a lower mileage transmission locally.
Well, no luck with FS1. Unfortunately it looks like I'm down $200 since they made me sign an agreement to even work on the PCM that basically said if it didn't work there's no warranty. They are unwilling to work with me and kept telling me that it's my fault because I couldn't give them the right VIN. Completely didn't understand what I wanted them to do after telling me they understood. Good company if you don't want them to do anything out of the ordinary, cause they aren't gonna do it but they will take your money!
At least I have a spare PCM (I guess? lol).
Back to the drawing board and hoping that I can find my same truck in a junk yard with keys, lock cylinder, and PCM. Might be a unicorn but not losing hope yet!
Fordzilla I wish I had your situation!!

Yep, that's an unfortunate issue with this swap. The best bet will always be to find a donor computer with the matching keys and lock cylinder. Sorry that route didn't work for you.
