Swapping Ignition / Lock Cylinders?

I own a 2003 Ranger 4.0 4X4.

I am wanting to swap a tilt steering column for my not-tilt column. I think everything is pretty straightforward, except I'm a little unsure of the ignition cylinder.

I want to keep the same key to my truck after switching columns. Can I just switch-out ignition cylinders?

Is it pretty easy to swap-out cylinders? Anything I should watch out for?

Any help is appreciated. AC.

yes just switch the cylinder over, i believe all u have to do is pop off the black cover on top and bottom of the column and then on the underside of the cylinder there should be a release pin.

you need to have the key in the tumbler to pull it out.

^ I think he's right. The older ones were just a straight swap... but not the newer trucks.
