Tps reset procedure

Tps reset procedure

Simple question... What is the TPS sensor reset/calibration procedure for an 09 2.3L?

Rangers never had "Drive by wire" so there is not much you need to do.
Computer will reLearn new TPS voltages if you swap it out without doing anything, but if you unhook the battery for about 5 minutes then the KAM(keep alive memory) in the PCM will be cleared, that has TPS and IAC Learned voltages saved
So on reboot PCM will start to relearn those voltages
If idle wanders a bit then it is relearning

If you don't want to wait the 5 min. then remove both battery cables and touch the cables together, that will drain the capacitors instantly which clears KAM



Drive by wire means there is no throttle cable, no mechanical connection from gas pedal to the throttle plate on the engine
Throttle is opened and closed by an electric motor
Gas pedal has a sensor

These sometimes need to be Sync'ed, the throttle, PCM, and the gas pedal sensor

Thanks ron, after having my battery out i noticed my idle kinda went "weird" for a bit. This explains it.

I can't vouch for the Ranger, but owning a boatload of Fords - many like Ron said w/o a real throttle cable - I've had a lot of success unhooking the negative post and using a wire from the positive post/cable to the empty negative cable, (not attached). Sounds just like Ron said but for whatever reason, I'm not comfortable touching the negative cable to the still attached positive. Regardless, after doing that and waiting a few minutes, hook up everything without any accessories running and start the truck cold. Watch out for auto-headlights. Set them to "Off" and not "Auto". Let the truck idle until warm or about 10-20 minutes to relearn the idle base. Then you can take it for a drive. Again, try not to run accessories and if possible, try to go through all your gears so the shift table resets. Whenever I do this, I try to get on the road on like a Sunday morning so I can get a smooth ride in without traffic and then hit the highway for a second.

Even if you don't do this, the PCM will adjust over time so no harm. But anytime I clean the MAF or Throttle or swap the Trans fluid, it's my final step. Plus, I just enjoy it. It's like a victory lap after a project
