TPS broken?

TPS broken?
Was cleaning my MAF sensor and I pulled out the connector on the other end leading to the to clean it too and it snapped off. The part that grabs the metal rod had been previously broken(previous owner) and glued into place and when I pulled the unit out, it snapped right off again. Am I right that this is the throttle position sensor and am I also right in assuming I need to replace that before the ranger can be driven again?

Yes, that is the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS)
You should be able to drive without it working, although it looks like a vacuum leak if not put back on.
If TPS gets stuck at WOT(wide open throttle) then engine will not start, so don't plug wires back in
TPS acts as accelerator pump on Carb, adds extra fuel instantly when driver presses down on gas pedal, so acceleration will be sluggish without working TPS
Idle may also be a bit high, 1,000rpm even after warm up
