Transmission making a new noise
Transmission making a new noise
02 2.3l manual RWD base model.
I have recently started hearing a new noise from my truck and I think it's the transmission because it would seem to make sense, but not sure.
It's not a constant noise, I'm not even sure it's a bad noise, but it's a new noise which is making me worry.
So far it only happens when I'm accelerating to freeway speed and shifting from 4th into 5th gear. Right when I pop into 5th and release the clutch I get an airy "CHAAaaah" noise. Only once and only at that moment. It reminds me of the sound a semi makes with it's brakes, but not quite so loud. Otherwise the transmission has been fine. I replaced the fluid recently and there have been no leaks.
I guess it's possible it's not the trans, but I'm not sure what else it could be. When driving it sounds like it is coming from down on the floor of the passenger side.
Any ideas?
My transmission was dropped and had a new slave cylinder put in several years back. The transmission shop said they had to put a plate on the flywheel or something like that. But it's been solid since then, no problems.

M5OD-R1 transmission is bulletproof, so odd to have any problems with it.
And it ONLY makes the noise when you let the clutch out after shifting in to OD(5th)?
Try shifting in and out of 5th leaving clutch pedal down at speed, see if its the shifting or the letting the clutch out thats making the noise

I just drove into work this morning and was trying to pay attention to the sound. I think it happened when I shifted into 5th, but before I let the clutch in again. It is weird, it sounds like pressure being released. If I shifted down to 4th and then back into 5th it doesn't do it again right away. I have to be accelerating and shifting up through the gears and then when I hit 5th it makes the sound. I'll report back again after I drive home and determine exactly at what moment it happens.
